122 | Why We Resist Staying In Hard Times

WITH ANJULI PASCHALL

AnjuliPaschall.png

We have strategies to avoid feelings, we can think our feelings, but we are not good at feeling our feelings, so the moment we have a feeling we’re going here in our minds - how do I get rid of it, what did I do, how can I fix it, how can I make it better.
— Anjuli Paschall

About This Episode:

Are you experiencing a disconnect between your head and your heart? Are you suppressing what you truly feel in order to just make it through each and every day? You may be tempted to give up - but the ache will always be there. That’s why we need to stay where we resist being. Today on the podcast I'm chatting Anjuli Paschall who wrote the book Stay: Discovering Grace, Freedom, and Wholeness, Where You Never Imagined Looking.

Anjuli shares why we need to stay where we resist and how we can navigate feelings of belonging and loneliness. And if it’s possible for us to begin to re-imagine the future and what does it look like for us to hold space for ourselves and others.

Anjuli Paschall is the founder of The Moms We Love Club and is a beloved writer for Dayspring’s (in)courage. She lives in Southern California with her husband Sam, and five beautiful children.

121 | How To Shift Your Identity + Purpose Away From Doing

WITH PAULA FARIS

PaulaFaris.png

There is this notion and there is this belief and it’s systemic that we are only as good as what we do, that our work lies in work that our value lies in vocation and that our calling is career.
— Paula Faris

About This Episode:

What happens when your identity is tied to doing?

Have you ever felt so tied to what you do, to the roles you play that it feels impossible to separate it from who you are?

It can feel terrifying to walk away from something that you’ve placed so much or your value in. Especially if it’s a job you worked hard to get in the first place.

That’s what happened to our guest today. Paula had worked hard to climb the ladder going from intern all the way to anchoring Good Morning America and sitting across the table from women like Whoopi Goldberg and Sharon Osborne on the View.

Even though she had accomplished so many of her dreams, she felt an unsettledness in her spirit and it took a whole string of unfortunate events for her to have ’the come to Jesus moment’ she needed to take a step back.

And when she got honest with herself, she realized that one of the biggest fears she would ever conquer would be to leave what she had worked so hard to achieve.

119 | What Does Social Privilege Have To Do With Our Health

WITH DR JILLIAN MURPHY

1.png

There’s this definition of window of attractiveness that most of us are trying to attain, that is not healthy or attainable for the majority of the population. And the way I usually get people to take that in is to understand there is a social privilege associated with maintaining that ideal body type and shape. And it’s a privilege, and there is social status associated with it because by definition it is difficult to achieve. If everybody could be that size and shape, it would stop holding status.
— Dr. Jillian Murphy, ND

About This Episode:

Now more than ever we're completely obsessed with our bodies, and the food that we’re eating. The truth is that a majority of people would say they don’t like the way they look. I know I’ve said that about myself many times throughout my life. But what might surprise you to learn is that there’s a highly idealized view of health and body type and that it’s an expensive classist system that only the privileged have access to. During this episode, I’m chatting with Dr. Jillian Murphy about what social privilege has to do with our health, and how we can start to make peace with our bodies.

Don’t wrap your identity up in anything because change is great and that’s part of the adventure. If you’re going to pursue a dream, chances are it’s going to take you a bit to figure out what that looks like.
— Kathleen Van Engen

About This Episode:

So often in life, we as women can feel like we are being defined by the roles that we play, so we begin to search for our true identity. In this episode, I’m talking with my friend and director of Tattered Tiaras about the struggles we face as women to be uniquely who have been created to be. In this candid conversation, Kathleen shares her battle with mental illness following the birth of her second son and how that was the catalyst for her becoming an advocate for women suffering from mental health issues. We also talk about the challenge women face in leadership and trap that we can easily fall into when we look for our identity in what we do instead of who we are.

Kathleen Van Engen is the executive director of the teenage girl’s organization, Tattered Tiaras. Kathleen is passionate about the advancement of young girls in positions of leadership and influence. Tattered Tiaras offers support for teen girls in the areas of identity, mental health, and leadership. 115 | A New Vision For Sex, Desire and Intimacy

WITH KAT HARRIS

1.png
Singleness has given me time to look back and see who am I becoming, what am I about, where am I called to and how am I stepping into that now.
— Kat Harris

About Episode

Today on the podcast we’re talking about love, being known, and the yearning we have to be intimate with someone. In a culture of instant gratification, sex is seen as a way for our personal desires to be fulfilled. But what if we start to look at relationships and physical intimacy in a new way. I’m joined by educator, podcaster, and founder of The Refined Woman, Kat Harris and we’re talking all about sex.

In full disclosure this is a conversation between two single women sharing their experience and viewpoints. We're not experts, just real people sharing our thoughts on sex before marriage, abstinence, what the bible says about sex, and some of the damage that has been done through the purity culture. Whether you are single or married, this is a conversation you do not want to miss.

Kat Harris is an online educator, speaker, author, and photographer. Her vision is to equip and empower women with practical tools to walk in their worth and navigate their lives grounded in freedom, vision, and wholeness.
