42 | Setting Intention

WITH ANDREA CRISP

AndreaCrisp-Couragecast1-Itunes.jpg

Intention + Action = Magic

It was a complete game changer when I started every day by setting an intention for my day.

Goals are great and we all need to have clear goals in our lives, but if we don’t set intention within our goals then they can seem a little elusive and staying connected to them, and accomplishing them will be quite difficult.

I know for myself that when I set a goal it’s not good enough for me to be externally motivated by the success of the goal, I also have to be internally motivated to accomplish it.

Setting intentions allow you to focus and stay present in the moment so that you can really enjoy life. When you're able to really set your emotional/spiritual tone for the day then everything else accompanies it. All of the sudden you will see a physical shift in your life as well.

41 | Beauty In The Trying With Shalon Ironroad

WITH SHALON IRONROAD

Shalon Headshot - Portrait.jpg

About This Episode:

As women, we all have a tendency to undervalue who we are and not really play to our strengths. In this episode, Shalon Ironroad opens up about the journey she has been on to be fully present in her life not only as an entrepreneur but as a mother. Shalon gives us practical insight on how to focus on who we are instead of what we do because that is how we can bring our unique gifts to the world.

Shalon is on a mission to help women feel the power and light they already have inside of them. She is the author of The Tale of Little Tree: A Fable About Courage, which is an invitation to understand who you truly are and what you’re capable of and have the courage to choose growth — even (and especially!) with all of its clumsiness and struggles.

A military wife, mom of 3, and business consultant, Shalon has learned how to use courage to find peace and confidence during times of self-doubt, overwhelm, and uncertainty to create success and joy.

She loves teaching young (+ young-at-heart) women about leadership, confidence, and real beauty. She has spoken with both teenagers and adults about faith, leadership, courage, well-being, and motherhood.

Shalon is passionate about helping women feel strengthened and supported in their efforts to shine within their orbits – as wives, mothers, friends, and leaders —  and answer the call every day to “something bigger”.

40 | Getting Up After We Fail

WITH ANDREA CRISP

AndreaCrisp-Couragecast1-Itunes.jpg

Why do you think we have such a hard time with failure? I’m pretty sure that I’ve avoided failure my entire life, which has also kept me playing small for many years. Now I’ve mentioned this many times before, but I’m a ONE on the Enneagram (the perfectionist - or perfectionist in recovery). For me failure was just not an option. Neither was risk. Either I knew something was going to be a success so I did it, or I didn’t do anything at all.

There are many reasons why we try to avoid failure, here are a few:

  • We don’t want others to know our weaknesses

  • We think if we try and fail that our dream won’t come true

  • We may have to accept responsibility for something not working

It doesn't really matter what you are wanting to do with your life, in your business, or in relationships. Failure is inevitable at some point. But there are so many lessons that we can take away from having to fail.

  1. Failure gives us EXPERIENCE and with it comes fresh perspective.

  2. Failure instills in us RESILIENCE and teaches us to have courage.

  3. Failure reveals what you VALUE and that in turn makes space for creativity.

39 | When Life Hands You Lemons

IMG_0137.JPG

About This Episode:

Something that I actually learned is that taking some time for yourself, going to bed early or feeding yourself a really healthy dinner that is work as well. Your business has to be healthy and you are your business. - Rachel Kelly

In this episode of I am chatting with the founder of an all-female co-working space here in Toronto called 'Make Lemonade'. During our conversation, Rachel Kelly shares all about what it takes to have a successful startup, how to create healthy boundaries in life and business and when to say no to opportunities that just don’t work for you.

Rachel’s first “real” job was a typical 9-5 desk gig where she would spend most days daydreaming how she would redesign the office and where her next adventure would be. When the reality of freelancing with an unstable paycheque hit her hard, she decided to make lemonade. She spent a year researching coworking, studying the market, searching for an office space, battling renovation nightmares, 'till she was finally able to open her very own coworking space, Make Lemonade.

38 | Having A Winning Mindset

WITH ANDREA CRISP

AndreaCrisp-Couragecast1-Itunes.jpg

Now that the winter Olympics in Pyeongchang has come to a close I am almost at a loss for what to do with my free time. For the past two weeks, I was captivated by winter sports and elite athletes who compete at the highest level on the world biggest stage. It amazes me the time and energy that these Olympians have dedicated to being the best in their sport. And although it takes some very special to be an Olympian, it takes something even greater to be an Olympic Champion. In this episode, I'm breaking down what we can learn from these amazing athletes and how having a winning mindset can be applied to our lives as well.

  1. See your mistakes as a way to grow and learn

  2. Be coachable

  3. Never give up

  4. Develop a strong work ethic

  5. Guard your mind
