— Anjuli Paschall

Life has a way of handing us expected things, especially when we have a carefully laid out plan — and in those moments we’re forced to change course. To find a new solution.
— Andrea Crisp

About This Episode:

How would your life be different if you learned how to expect the unexpected? The problem with expectations is that we can become so attached to the outcome that we lose ourselves in the process. And if we’re not careful we can be overcome with disappointment and frustration when things don’t turn out the way we’ve planned.

Today on the podcast we’re talking about how we can begin to loosen our grip on what we’ve carefully planned out to embrace the possibilities of what could be.

WITH ANDREA CRISP

Squarespace Bio Pic (1).png

You have stayed too long when you are feeling criticized when people are using their knowledge of you for harm. The warning signs are all around you when you hear people discrediting you (or others) when it comes to your dreams and purpose. And its definitely time to leave if you are being emotionally, physically or spiritually abused.
— Andrea Crisp

About This Episode:

During times of crisis and hardship, it’s easy to doubt whether or not you have the fortitude to stick things out.

There is value in staying and being in hard things but there is also value in knowing when it’s time to leave. But how do we know the difference? And why is that we stay too long in the first place? Maybe you’ve been feeling like you’ve overstayed a job or a relationship or perhaps even hung on to an opportunity that you don’t feel aligned with anymore.

Today on the podcast, I’m going to share with you what I’ve been learned and continue to learn about staying power. Staying in hard things, in hard emotions, in hard relationships, and how to get the most out of those moments in life and also maybe when it’s time to let go and walk away.

We have strategies to avoid feelings, we can think our feelings, but we are not good at feeling our feelings, so the moment we have a feeling we’re going here in our minds - how do I get rid of it, what did I do, how can I fix it, how can I make it better.

121 | How To Shift Your Identity + Purpose Away From Doing

WITH PAULA FARIS

PaulaFaris.png

There is this notion and there is this belief and it’s systemic that we are only as good as what we do, that our work lies in work that our value lies in vocation and that our calling is career.
— Paula Faris

About This Episode:

What happens when your identity is tied to doing?

Have you ever felt so tied to what you do, to the roles you play that it feels impossible to separate it from who you are?

It can feel terrifying to walk away from something that you’ve placed so much or your value in. Especially if it’s a job you worked hard to get in the first place.

That’s what happened to our guest today. Paula had worked hard to climb the ladder going from intern all the way to anchoring Good Morning America and sitting across the table from women like Whoopi Goldberg and Sharon Osborne on the View.

Even though she had accomplished so many of her dreams, she felt an unsettledness in her spirit and it took a whole string of unfortunate events for her to have ’the come to Jesus moment’ she needed to take a step back.

And when she got honest with herself, she realized that one of the biggest fears she would ever conquer would be to leave what she had worked so hard to achieve.

120 | Are Your Dreams Still Worth Pursuing?

WITH ANDREA CRISP

AndreaCrisp-Couragecast2-Itunes.jpg

So if you’re asking whether or not your dreams are still worth pursuing then that is the question you should be asking God.

Maybe life won’t look like you thought it was going to look. You may even find that what your dreams were no longer seem important enough to pursue. In fact, you may be thinking bigger, bolder.
— Andrea Crisp

In This Episode:

Is the fear of the future holding you captive, keeping you paralyzed from taking action on the very dreams that once propelled you forward? It’s common to be asking yourself where you should be going from here. So much has changed in the world, and life is no longer what it once was pre-COVID.

Are you wondering if your dreams are still valid? In this episode, I’m sharing with you how fear tends to hold us back, and how you can position yourself to really get the answer you need to move forward with or without your dreams.

119 | What Does Social Privilege Have To Do With Our Health

WITH DR JILLIAN MURPHY

1.png

There’s this definition of window of attractiveness that most of us are trying to attain, that is not healthy or attainable for the majority of the population. And the way I usually get people to take that in is to understand there is a social privilege associated with maintaining that ideal body type and shape. And it’s a privilege, and there is social status associated with it because by definition it is difficult to achieve. If everybody could be that size and shape, it would stop holding status.
— Dr. Jillian Murphy, ND

About This Episode:

Now more than ever we're completely obsessed with our bodies, and the food that we’re eating. The truth is that a majority of people would say they don’t like the way they look. I know I’ve said that about myself many times throughout my life. But what might surprise you to learn is that there’s a highly idealized view of health and body type and that it’s an expensive classist system that only the privileged have access to. During this episode, I’m chatting with Dr. Jillian Murphy about what social privilege has to do with our health, and how we can start to make peace with our bodies.
